The real  question is why buy a 60 gig 360 which only plays DvD's when you could get an 80 gig PS3 that plays blurays for 50 dollers more. Remeber too that a live account will add $50 to the 360 price tag alone. Do you know many people who have a 360 but do not pay for live?

If you want to say "games" heres what the average consumer is really looking at:

GTA 4 Vs. GTA 4

COD4 vs. COD4

HALO3 vs. MGS4.

Gears of WAr 2 vs. Resistance 2

Then there are some other exclusive titles comming for both systems but none of which are really mass system movers.

Because most consumers will not buy a more expensive toy to watch movies on. That has always been true, and will always be true. There were what maybe 40-50 million PS2s soldin the US? How many DVD players do you think were sold over that same time period? A ton more.

As for the rest well, I know of no one personally who pays for Xbox Live actually. My group of friends is highly a typical though so it is surely not close to representative. Also, there is more to gaming than the next big shooter game. None of those games you listed are anywhere near appealing to me as a gamer. Based on the sales numbers on this website, I would say your average consumer is looking at a very different selection of games when they are contemplating a purchase.
