I'm a bit cautious about comparing the handhelds with the console games, as the big hits on handhelds (Pokemon, NSMB, Nintendogs) reach numbers that no console games seem to be capable of touching, due to their insane legs. To be fair though, Nintendo's handhelds have always far outsold its home consoles (in hardware), so with the way the Wii is selling maybe a game like Mario Kart does have the potential to overtake 20mil without trouble. Nintendo's games also have the advantage of appealing to all regions, as opposed to shooters or GTA which doesn't do well in Japan.
