If I said the Wii could pass PS2 levels...I don't say "Wii will pass PS2 sales, because PS2 was crap and was a worthless console." It just...doesn't make sense to even say stuff like that...

I have to disagree with you Ben. There are atleast 5 posts on this thread where others made that exact same example you just gave in regards to PS2's higher defect rate. By your definition of trolling they are as much guilty as he was.

I see his comment as his opinion. Granted he is poking N-boys but, not so different that N-boys poke him.

Saying something needs to be replaced every few years is quite different from a defect rate. While it's not so much a fact, it is reconized that a large % of people have purchased more than 1 PS2 and not because they wanted one in each room. If the Wii has a similar lifetime, causing many to need to repurchase it every 3-4 years, it adds numbers to sales. The 360 defect issues are quite different because they happen at a much earlier time so they're still under warranty or barely out when the death ring shows up. And it is an actual issue with the way the system is put together so in reality, all the systems are really defected and more than likely the number of dead 360s will only be shockingly high come 3-4 years after the initial release. Needing to purchase something every few years isn't looked down upon by most. Constant use will cause a lot of electronic equipment to need replacement.

Overall, Nintendo's systems have stood the test of time so they may not get an unnatural boost from systems dying after a few years. However, I really think the Wii will have these issues. I have a feeling the suction loading is going to start failing on people after some time. Generally, discs that are not the standard size are not allowed to be used with suction loading drives. It's one of the major reasons I thought the design was a fake when the information first showed up on the web.

To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.
