May I ask a really dumb question right now?

Why would you want to leave Wiiconnect24 on? I mean what's the point? I remember them talking about updates and "suprises" you'd get. But it seems like things like new channels are acessed via the Wiishop channel. So is there any bennefit to leaving it on that you can't get by just occasionally checking the shop channel?

The blue LED will light up letting you know you have Wii-mail. Also, the various channels can download updates while your Wii sleeps, so that you don't have to wait for them when you turn the system on. The Mii channel is probably the best example, where your Miis will "travel" to your friends' Wiis, and their Miis will travel to yours. The Miis that show up in your Mii Parade then show up in games like Wii Sports and Wii Play.

I expect this feature will be used more in the future.  A few games already use it, with more planned.  More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiiconnect24
