I've already played Tales of Symphonia, Star Ocean 3, and Xenosaga. Grandia II is another classic. I shied away from 3 b/c it sounded like there was too much dungeon crawling. Story is really important to me. That's a big reason why I like Suikoden 3,5, Skies, and Chrono Trigger. A common aspect to all those games' stories is that they weren't overly dramatic. Although I like the FF series, one of my complaints has always been that they're almost too depressing too much of the time. Not enough sense of adventure and fun.

Persona sounds intriguing. What about Odin Sphere? I've heard that it's good, but I don't actually know anything about it.

Odin Sphere was great! I loved it! The only downside was the slowdown whenever fighting the huge bosses. The PS2 couldn't handle everything on screen and the framerate goes down hard. It's still playable though, and I really reccomend it. Most GameStops have it at clearance for $15.99.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."
