E3 is the biggest game show in America. This is a show that companies typically use to reveal their short to midterm plan. Remember, this is the show that just a few years ago really revealed to the western press the direction that Nintendo was going go with the Wii. The fact that Nintendo didn't find it important enough to show anything that hardcore gamers would care about, further reveals the direction they're taking the Wii.

E3 has changed since 2 years ago if you havent noticed. What announcements were made at E3 this year? Wii Motion Plus and Final Fantasy 13 for 360. That is pretty much it.

All three did not bring their big guns, showing that E3 is a shell of its former self. While gamers still cling to the hope that E3 might become the awesome expo it once was, the fact of the matter is it isnt. It isnt even close.

That is no doubt true. Here's the problem. I own a PS3 and I watched Sony's conference. I agree, nothing big was revealed. But I did get to see a ton of games I'm interested in. I might've seen them before, but I got to see a lot of them in much closer detail. The LittleBigPlanet demo for example was absolutely brilliant and got me more amped for the game than before. I now know that it is coming in October. I got a brief glimpse of Motorstorm and got confirmation it's coming in October. I got to see Resistance and was informed it's coming in November. I was told Killzone would for sure ship in February '09. Then I was shown Infamous for the first time and was blown away. It's coming "spring" '09. That means, Sony on its own without 3rd parties is supplying me with enough games to last from now till next E3. The 360 had a similar showing.

On the other hand, Nintendo showed me nothing. Nintendo gave me no reason to look forward to the next 12 months. And after playing a ton of great titles so far in the Wii's life, not having anything to look forward to is a kick in the balls. Sure, things could get announced later scheduled for release some time in '09. But for at least the next 5 months from now till the end of the year, judging by IGN's release schedule, my Wii is going to be collecting dust.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.
