NES was a fad that took the world by storm, selling 60 million units right after the video game crash.  Super Nintendo went on to sell 20 million less, a larger portion of that (as well as Sega Genesis) being to a younger demographic as many older, casual gamers who owned a Nintendo didn't go on to the next generation.
