Looking at the old system data, I think the Intellivision hardware number is actually closer to 6M than 3M.

The 3M comes from the pre-crash/Mattel closure sales. It is cited on Wikipedia, coming from a Gamespy description (http://classicgaming.gamespy.com/View.php?view=ConsoleMuseum.Detail&id=17&game=9):

"Despite Mattel's awful marketing, the Intellivision sold over 3 million units. "

This generally refers to what Mattel sold. It is thought that another same amount was sold in the following seven years by INTV Inc. (albeit many as replacement units). I need to find my old Intellivision sales thread (for which much of the software numbers seem to have already appeared here) to check out my sourcing on it.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.
