I have to ask are the future prospects for games on the Wii this shallow? Are there no other games to get excited about? Red Steel on its very best day might be called slightly below average. There are only two things that saved that game from falling off the radar and into the abyss. A decent soundtrack ashamed of itself for being in Red Steel, and the simplistic gameplay which all, but ensures that you will progress through the poorly designed levels.

I bought Red Steel, and I played the game for over six hours. To put it bluntly I gave this game more of a chance than it deserved. I never enjoyed myself remotely during the entire time. Then I realized why this was. It wasn't the bad controls, gameplay mechanics, storyline, graphics, and artificial intelligence. I recognized the game for what it truly was a first person shooter from over ten years ago with absolutely no polish. In other words I was swimming through crap only to find that the destination was a huge pile of crap.

There really wasn't much to actually redeem this game. Like I said a soundtrack, and the fact that you could make the controls work. Hard though it may sound some games cannot even bother to have working control schemes. Even more reprehensible is the fact that this game seemed to be designed to physically harm the player. Swinging your hands past one another at high speed. Almost an invitation to knuckle smacking fun. especially since the Wii when using the sensor bar is only tolerant of playing within a certain box. Which means your hands are already dangerously close when your going to fight the controls to pull off a special sword move.

I am just plain saddened to see anyone getting excited about this game, because the first game just wasn't any good. The real tragedy is better games will not get a sequel.
