^Or do you buy a console based on other factors? Discuss

So people who have a Wii console. I assume you bought a DS, PS2, PS1 and SNES, etc.

Although I am quite happy with my Wii, since getting married I haven't really had any choice; my wife wants to play Mario Party, and I don't have enough time available for video games to justify owning two consoles.

In the past, well...

  • I asked Santa for an Atari, which was the market leader, because I didn't even realise there were other consoles; I was pretty shocked when he got my order wrong and I received an Intellivision
  • I got an NES because it was the market leader in my neighborhood
  • I got an SNES because I loved my NES so much; I wasn't really following such things back then, but I suspect that it was not the market leader yet when I got it
  • I got a GCN (after being a pc gamer for a number of years) because my wife wanted to play Mario Party
  • I bought a DS because I wanted Mario Kart DS
  • I bought a Wii for about a hundred different reasons, but as I stated before, I never really had a choice, so its lucky I love it; also I bought it before it was the market leader

So of the six consoles/handhelds I have owned four of them were market leader at some point (though only two were the market leader when I bought it); but only one console I have owned, the NES, did my choice have any real connection to market status.
