Someone's going to jump the gun and make a new console. Right? Who ever's in the worst position (I don't mean third place) I mean worst position from a marketing stand point.
MS might still be in front of PS but they definitely will see declining sales. These staggered price drops aren't helping either. One big price drop would have been like an AED, re-jump starting the brand.
November-December 2008 the three year warrantees start running out... How do you think that's going to play on the internet?
Sony will not be able to get the PS3 passed the Wii and be profitable by the time MS decides they need to press the reset button. Even if they don't release first, Sony marketing will have this in the back of their heads. MS will force the next gen.
The next PS will be almost exactly a PS3, but it will have some feature that sets it apart. Sony can not afford to make a totally new console, and they won't be able to afford not too. It will be a compromise between the SCE guys and Sony.
My Nintendo predictions may be spot on or totally off. Their behavior is always hard to predict, and it's hard when they only can go down. They will do two things to maintain growth. 1. Try to increase margins and offer more peripherals and 2. continue to seek out more new gamers.
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
