I think that when the PS3 catches the 360 in overall sales (probably by March of next year) this will even out with a probable shift towards Sony (due to people with both consoles). This will be intensified by the release of trophies (FINALLY!!) that match the incentive achievements give for a 360 purchase. I would even contend that trophies are superior in that there is no early adopter head start. If you buy a PS3 today and a 360 today you start tens of thousands of gamer points behind any serious players on the 360 but almost exactly even with the PS3 community. Also I greatly prefer the leveling up system to the system of meaningless points with the 360. When I was barely short of level two I really worked for a gold trophy in super stardust while on the 360 what does another 20 gamerpoints really mean when you have 5000?
I also think that more and more developers are using to use the multiple cores better instead of treating the PS3 as a poor imitation of the 360 (which is what it is when you ONLY use the central processor and ignore the rest of the architecture). The PS3 is vastly more powerful, but only if used correctly. More and more devs finally seem to be rising to that challenge (and I think MGS4 will only intensify that by showing just what is possible if the power is utilized).
I would guess major releases with an even installed base in Europe and the US would be 60/40 in favor of the PS3. Not paying for online is a major factor too. I wouldn't even think of getting something like Call of Duty for the Xbox since I have no interest in shelling out 50 dollars a year for nothing.
