Star Wars is actually quite popular in Japan. Lucas borrowed heavily from Japanese culture, particular Akira Kurosawa, when making the films. It was always easy for them to relate to the film, despite western production. Gundam, one of the most popular eternal sci fi series in Japan, was also heavily influenced in turn by Star Wars. Star Wars represented the shifting point to complex narratives vs. simpler episodic content in many films and animes over there. Go go space opera! Wow, I feel like a star wars nerd after spouting that off.... and I'm not even into star wars that much. |
Really? That should help sales then
