Madkiller, accusing everyone in here of being teenagers is rather...well, sophomoric. You're welcome to your opinion, but I am 24 and almost everyone I know owns a Wii. That includes women and older members of my family, but including my friends of the same age range. OMG, not all 20-something males are hardcore gamers! Tell them to stop not being stereotypical!
First of all, saying Metroid, Zelda, and Mario are too easy is a flat-out lie. Those 3 games are harder and last longer than the vast majority of "hardcore" games out there. Now, if you mean they don't have the online internet aspect, then okay. You are simply spewing pure bile and hatred because you have succumbed to the idiotic internet hype.
The problem is with fan's expectations. They've been raised sky high since the Wii has been successful, and are being disappointed that Nintendo can only produce as many games as they used to. They've already almost produced as many first party games in the first 2 years of the Wii's lifetime than they did during the entire Gamecube era. But fans ignore that because they have become complete slaves to their unrealistic expectations.
The situation on the Wii is not going to change until third parties step up. Their incompetence is not Nintendo's problem. Hell, Nintendo's making record profits IN SPITE of their incompetence. It is their fear of the new control mechanism that is holding things up, not Nintendo. That will come in time, as their profit margins decrease ever more from their support of the HD consoles. But this is a paradigm shift, and paradigm shifts do not happen in such a short time.
And I'm sick of this bile toward the "new consumer." I refuse to call them casual gamers, because that is a false label. You prove your bias and incompetence in belittling these people, who whether you like it or not are readying to become the new generation of gamers. You talk so badly about the Wii's attach rate, but the Wii's attach rate is higher than the PS3 and catching up with the 360. That doesn't support your assertion that these "casuals" are only playing Wii Sports. It's one of those misconceptions that is spreading like a virus.
If you are actually in your 20s then I am amazed by your immaturity. I think you've been playing too many "hardcore games" and haven't bothered picking up your head out of the sand every once in a while. Then you might realize that games don't have to be time-sucking shootfests and collect-a-thons to be fun. It's only once these old generation consumers (that's what I call hardcore gamers) realize this that this industry as a whole becomes something more than a bastion for out-of-touch manchildren.
p.s. People who have to cite their IQ as evidence of their intelligence only proves they lack intelligence. Ah, I remember Albert Einstein's famous quote when someone questioned his theory of relativity. "But I have an IQ of 200!" How can you refute such logic?
