Adding to the difficulty there is that if you leak the info to just a few companies, the others will rightfully feel angry that their competition has a jump start, while if you tell everyone then a leak is guaranteed. I'm not saying Nintendo was necessarily right to do as it did, but I can at least kind of understand it (which is more than I can say for their WiiWare release schedule, or the lack of storage space). |
Good point - I'm sure that was what they tried to avoid.

I definitely feel you about the imprecision (Zak and Wiki often being a key example), but while games that only occasionally need somewhat imprecise motion controls (like turning a key) would benefit greatly, I still think 1:1 would be too much for most games. Granted that Wii Sports Golf sucked because of this imprecision, but imagine if we actually got the 1:1 basketball game. I can't shoot hoops as it is; having to do so when I'm not sure how far my player is from the hoop, etc. would make it too frustrating. We agree that the wiimote needs to get better, but I'm worried that the Motion Plus would be too much of a good thing. |
1:1 controls is an option, not a must. As a developer, you can still "guide" a basketball throw, or adjust the tolerance, or stick to on-rails motion control, so to say. You just get additional, more accurate data - how you evaluate it is up to you. But M.P. would surely remove the infamous waggle feel from many games.
