A Secret Rings sequel, eh?

I've seen this one before. The game gets reviewed in the high 70s, people say it bombed after the first month of sales data, it goes on to sell about 1.5 million copies, people who buy the game are largely satisfied but not blown away, saying things like "It's flawed, but it's the best 3D Sonic yet" even though it probably isn't, and it ends up added to the litany of "bad Sonic games" for Sonic haters to recite when the next sequel is announced.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.
