I look at the Wiimote as the mouse of video game consoles. For those of you old enough, you'll remember a time when PCs were operated by a keyboard. When the mouse was brought to the mainstream via the Mac, a lot of the critics called it a toy for the computer illiterate. Anyone who was serious about computers didn't need a mouse after all. Surely computers should require skill to operate and a mouse was not necessary for everyday tasks like word processing and spreadsheets.

A lot of the criticisms for the Wiimote seem awfully similar to those leveled against the mouse. I believe a pointing device, like the Wiimote, will become a standard part of future consoles as the mouse is standard to PCs.

But unlike Apple, Nintendo isn't charging high end prices for these features. Imagine if the original mac sold for cheaper than other PCs. The last 20 years could have been dominated by Apple instead of Microsoft.
