That actually makes sense. Third parties can't actually wave the "we can't compete with Nintendo" flag if Nintendo doesn't have much of anything to compete with. Nintendo is in a good position to hold off games since they make plenty of money from Wii and DS sales, so I guess they could just leave room for the third parties to make some money.
Although this strategy (if it is what they are doing) does suck Chewbacca balls for Nintendo fans.
