Yes it's very important to me.
If the PS3 didn't have some sort of BC I wouldn't have bought one period. If mine breaks and there is no option for me to turn to I won't purchase another until there is. I have about 5x the number of PS2 games as I have PS3 ones.
I know people saying there is the option of buying both consoles but to be frank the PS2 hardware is pretty unreliable and the chances of a model still working 10 years down the road isn't very promising. As long as Sony stays loyal to their promise to keep BC a priority then I will continue to buy their products. That's why their backtracking has been so frustrating to me this gen.
