Yep, PS2's are notoriously unreliable and as time goes on it'll be harder and harder to get a good working PS2.
I still play an Atari 7600... the chances of my PS2 working in the 12th generation seems unlikely... and the chances of being able to find a new one for a cheap price is equally as unlikely outside of garage sale hunting or something.
Also it helps because... well I still play my Atari and every other system i own. It's a pain switching them, one of the best parts of getting my first PS2 was i could give my PS1 away.
