 Star Fox used Super FX, Mode7 was what is featured in games Like Mario Kart, Castlevania and Super Ghouls and Ghost's. But I think it was before StarFox, but was a totally different type of game.

 

Yeah, it was before Star Fox.  Pilotwings actually came out in 1990 IIRC.
