Sure let's add Xenoblade HD, and Clubhouse games. Also the Tokyo Mirage Sessions port. Sorry, there's just too many games to remember sometimes. We can do this in a year or at the end of Switch's life cycle. Your choice. I'm willing to play the long game here. :D

Edit: Just wanted to add, that while older games have the advantage of being on the market longer, newer games have the advantage of a bigger Switch install base from the get go.

Bigger Switch install base from the get go has little affect on lifetime sales. For example AC had the bigger launch week due to the larger install base from the get go but it will still need time on the market to reach its maximum potential. Zelda on the other hand is still available to that same base AC has but had a 3 year head start. So yeah I would prefer end of Switch's life cycle but Im not sure what exactly are you asking me? Are you saying I said 2020 beats the other years? I said the other years don't look much better despite Covid. I'm not sure we will get the numbers we need for this comparison, which is why I tried to focus on tentpole releases. Just looking at the highest sellers per year, 2020 does not look that much worse. 2017 looks head shoulders higher than everyone else

2017:

Zelda(20-25 million lifetime)

Mario Kart(30- 40 million lifetime)

Splatoon(10- 15 million lifetime)

Mario Ody(20-25 million lifetime)

Total: 105 million

2018:

Mario Party(10-12 million)

Poke lets go(10-15 million)

Smash(20-30 million)

Total: 57 million

2019:

NSMB(10-12 million)

Mario Maker(8- 10 million)

Zelda LA(8- 10 million)

Luigi (10-12 million)

Poke Sw & Sh(20- 25 million)

Total: 69

2020:

Animal Crossing(35- 40 million)

3D Mario All(10- 15 million)

Hyrule Warriors(5- 10 million?)

Total: 65

PS: This is actually kind of fun. Maybe this should be its own thread lol. Team 2018 vs. Team 2019 vs. Team 2020! Lifetime sales competition.

I would prefer to use all the relevant data. At the very least anything surpassing a million copies sold should be included in the comparison.

Yeah I agree, do you think making such a thread would be fun? Comparing each years software releases lifetime sales?

2020 had too many games for you to remember yet you are arguing that its a weak year?

It's hard to remember so many low quality forgettable games, and ports. And 2020 wasn't the only year where I forgot about stuff.

Yet you remembered all 4 Wii U ports, a toy and an expansion in 2018......

Because I happen to own most of those 2018 things. So it was a matter of looking directly to my left as I typed it off. Also, the Labo Bomb has been my screensaver on my PC ever since I used it for a sig here.

So ports/remasters were worthwhile titles to own in 2018 but in 2020 they are "low quality and forgettable".

And you also couldn't remember the toy announced a few days ago.

I didn't say that the ports were low quality and forgettable. I said it was hard to remember so many low quality, forgettable games and ports. If I said there were ripe, green watermelons, and people, would you think I meant that green ripe people existed? Jesus Fuck. Learn to read.

Sure, I forgot the RC car game, but I also thought Ring Fit came out in 2020, and added it to my list under the 2020 section, until somebody corrected me on it.

Yeah it would be a cool thread. I'll make it or you can. If enough people respond, you can get nifty badge on the site!

You didnt say they were forgettable, yet you forgot to add them to the list so which is it?

Where they forgettable titles or did you deliberately choose to exclude ports in this years list while including them in the 2018 list?

My dude, I also forgot about Star Allies in 2018, and 1-2 Switch in 2017. Check the post history. Edit: And Fitness Boxing in 2018.

Nice false dichotomy. Any more rigged questions? Having something be forgettable, because it doesn't stand out, and forgetting something that's very important because there are too many things to remember are two different things. For Example: You can forget your important house keys, while leaving the house, because you were trying to keep track of 15 other things. Or you can forget you owned a bunch of toothpicks because they don't stand out.

Sure, you forgot a game or two each year but in 2020 (the year you are arguing is worse than other years) you missed like half the lineup. I hope you can see how that comes off like someone pushing an agenda.

If you're going to have an accurate comparison than either include everuthing or have a specific criteria (like only new games or only games that sell x amount, etc).

If you include all the ports/remasters in one year than include all of them in other years.

If you include a game based around a toy/accessory in one year than include games based around a toy/accessory in other years.

If you include 3rd party games published by Nintendo in one year than include all 3rd party games published by Nintendo in other years.

I just want consistently when it comes to making year by year comparisons.
