Forums - Sales Discussion - When does Sony reach the point of no return in Japan?

I don't think that Nintendo will get the main FF Franchise back, at least not this gen. I could be wrong, but I don't see FFXIII not being exclusive to Sony this gen.

Well FFXIII is most likely not going to be a PS3 exclusive but since it's not coming to the Wii (I seriously doubt they would go through the trouble of downgrading the graphics) it will be an exclusive in Japan for all intents and purposes. What wouldn't surprise me is if Square makes 2 chapters, essentially games, the PS3 and a new Wii one. Either that or they scale back the PS3 FFXIII to put resources into a side quest for the Wii. I would be very surprised if Square took the financial hit of releasing a hugely espensive game only on the PS3. The financial reasons not to are simply too great as every other developer is discovering. Squares trade show is coming up and the reportedly have big news about FFXIII and a new game on an unspecified console so we'll see what's going on in May.

FFXIII is not going to the Wii, Square has been thru this with the PS1. Their sales were weaker than only to pick up after FF7 was released, and with PS3 sales picking up and the fact they have been working on it for a while, they won't release it on another system other than PS3. The big news is most likely a release date and a new game will not be a FF game and if it is, it will be crystal chronicles crap like game, like they did for the GC. I wouldn't get my hope up that square would go thru the hassle of changing a game to fit a weaker system and alter the controls this far in. every other developer is discovering? Like who? I know they lost exclusives to the 360, but thats more due to the CEO being a lazy bastard than anything, in fact they lost most of them last gen anyway. GTA was lost since San Andreas, which was on the XB and FF which was on the GC as a cheap sidegame. So sony lost some before the PS3 was even out, so no it's not because the PS3 is selling bad..even with the fact it's selling better than the 360 when it came out and than the PS1 did when it started..But square didn't seem to mind making FF7 for them. There is no sense it switching now, it'll be a PS3 only title until I see otherwise. The PS3 is fine and I don't see why N fans are so fast at saying its dead and the wii will rule all. Too soon to tell.

Predicting the Future - 360 Will get to 11 Million in the USA this year!!

Predicting the Future - Wii will NOT win this gen in America!!

Prediciting the Future - The PS3 will pass the Wii by 2009!!

Final Fantasy XIII is definitely going to stay a PS3 title, a 360 port is iffy at best, but remember there were technically 3 main final fantasies released on the same platform during the last 4 generations, if the PS3 doesn't pick up sales sufficiently even with Final Fantasy XIII, then seeing the other 2 for this generation appear on Wii becomes an excellent possibility.

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

FF XIV on Wii? It would be a huge step back.

PS360..., you repeated much of what I just said. FFXIII will not be brought wholesale over to the Wii at this point. Did "I seriously doubt they would go through the trouble of downgrading the graphics" mean something other than that? What other developers? You haven't heard about Enix, Majesco, Eidos, Capcom, Rockstar, Sega, ...., moving projects away from the PS3 and/or starting entirely new non-PS3 projects? Those are the developers who are capable of doing basic math and understand that spending 2-4 times as much to make a game only on the 3rd place system which will have less than 20% of the market for some time does not make sense. Square is in a tougher spot since the 360 is dead in Japan so that's why the main or bigger FFXIII will in any case still be on the PS3. The new game is somewhat up in the air. FF:CC was already announced for the Wii but it's apparently disappeared from Square and Japanese upcoming game lists. We'll see what they are up to soon enough but don't be too surprised if there's another tearful Sony fanboy petition circulating soon (and I remember reading some claim that DMC4 would "never" be on a non-Sony system, money trumps fanboism). If Square doesn't move some portion of FFXIII to other systems I'd be dumping my Square stock if I owned any.

Like DQIX on the DS which would never ever, oh wait...

Another option I wouldn't be surprised by would be a quick FFXIV announcement. If they're too far along with the PS3 version to cheaply go over to the 360 (or they just plain don't care about money) then they will have to finish FFXIII, put it out, lose money or at least make nothing like what they usually make off of FF and get FFXIV out as soon as possible. Maybe they would even go the Enix route and take it the DS, Japan might end up with a DS to Population ratio of over 1 in that case.

Yes. Moving DQIX on the DS is a great thing for S-E but not for players. PS2 would be much better platform for this game... even PSP would provide much more exciting gameplay and all. Numbers. Dumb masses buy Pokemon and Wii play... It means nothing. Big sales don't mean big game. It's like pop music. DS and Wii is like Britney...

wrong. DS and Wii are like MP3: A new way of listening to music. Technicaly inferior in quality, but with other features that the mass market prefer for the time being. This is like U2 saying "Our next album will only be available in mp3. You can buy it in a store or download on any music website"
