Forums - Sales Discussion - 2009 Japan top 100 games in terms of sales via Famitusu

I saw this on magic-box and a guy from CAG by the name of Rodimus D pointed it out. Credit goes to him but I didn't see a topic here on VGChartz

I guess now given new 2009 titles and what not we can get more accurate numbers on VGChartz from Famitsu, granted they are probably accurante enough.

#100 RE5 360. WOOT!

It's just that simple.

I already started to look at some old ones but the differece was pretty negligible.

Overtracked by (?) 1k - Star Ocean 4 360

Undertracked by 4k - Resident Evil 5 360

Tho Star Ocean maybe could have sold 1k in January? No doubt.

Almost all of the numbers are spot on VGChartz. Looks like between here and other resources Japan is certainly not a mystery in terms of tracking sales. Welp, if you can hit 100k+ In Japan I guess your a success.

Tales of Vesperia continued to sell even after it fell off the charts at 160k and is now over 200k. SO4 was much better than IU and TLR, so its odd the same thing didnt happen.

Tales of Vesperia @ 25

YAY!

Final Fantasy XIII at number 5 after releasing with only 2 weeks left in the year! Nice!

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

Fuck Steve Harvey. FREE EARL!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the GREATEST game EVER made!!!

I'd take a bullet for Square-Enix!

Looking at the list, it's evident that it's very difficult for new 'core' IPs to crack the Japanese market. To sell in Japan, you need to either sell established IPs that made their name in the past or 'casual' games (and when I say casual, I don't mean easy. Stuff like Elite Beat Agents kicks my ass. lol. Fun games though) Games like Bayonetta, White Knight Chronicles and Demon's Souls don't chart that high. It's no wonder why the Xbox 360 is struggling over there. Aside from the occassional established IP getting exclusivity (Ace Combat 6) or timed exclusivity (Star Ocean, Tales), the Xbox 360 mainly has new core IPs (ie. Blue Dragon, Last Remnant, Infinite Undiscovery, Lost Odyssey) or niche IPs (ie. Cave shmups).
