What happened to motion control being a fad?

Was that before or after they buried SixAxis as an important feature?

How are the Arc and the Dualshock both the defacto controllers? I think that is an oxymoron. Anyways, no don't do it Sony! But they really, really, really (x infinity) need to make a new controller. The dualshock is 15 years old and feels like it.

Well, they were supposed to go with the "banana phone" controller, but people didn't like it.  The Playstation controller now is good, except for the bottom two triggers, which just feel ackward to me when trying to play a game with them.  The rest works well though.

Oh, hell no!

Is there a picture showing a nice view of Arc-wand-gem?
I'm curious about the buttons in it, and can't find a good picture!

(thanks!)

First of all, Sony doesn't get to decide what the "defacto" controller is... the consumers do. Sony saying that is arrogance along the lines of - "we'll sell 5 million with no games."

Sony can push all they want, but the userbase wants DS3 instead, then DS3 it will be - eventually after the game sales tank and companies get the picture.

As for this, I say "bad move." If I want motion control, I have a Wii. Even on my Wii, I use the GC controller almost any time it is an option. I would wager that I am not the only one that feels this way.

Nay. If that happens i'll either stop playing video games or collect past games and play those. If this is the controller for PS4 then I won't be buying another PlayStation and more importantly and sadly it will end any sony fanboism I had left. Especially if they charge for online with PS4. As far as i'm concerned once they release a motion controller and a subscription service that adds features that should be added for free then for me they've lost this war.

I have no problem and actually love playing a racing game with a steering wheel, Light Gun shooting games or playing Guitar Hero with a drum Set (btw my sister does have a friend who plays guitar hero on ps2 with a controller and finds it easier). Even bowling with the ps3 ds3 was decent which I got tired of in about 2 days but for real gaming I have no desire to waggle a tv remote to do things. There are no realistic combos I could do in a game like Heavenly Sword, God of War nor Ninja Gaiden Sigma. When I play games I want to sit and relax. Not excersize. I have a treadmill for that.

Honestly i'm intrigued and disgusted by the success of some of these motion games. Also I never tried the Pseye on PS2 but always meant to but along comes PS3 and I buy a camera. Afterwhile I decided to check out the games for them and they looked like crap. Watched people play them on YouTube and it looked incredibly unresponsive and ridiculous. So, so far it's not for me. Doesn't mean it can't be improved but I don't really care. I would try a game though that maybe combined the DS3 plus six axis and touch screen. Put they'd all have to be used appropriately to me. I don't see me buying an Arc. I won't rule it out. Maybe for collection purposes one day like the wii but that may be the height of it's purpose for me. I'm really becoming unhappy with a lot of things in gaming. Maybe i'm not supposed to be gaming. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise. I don't know. Just looking for a bright side here. It's certainly not the growth of the industry in it's current direction.

At least Natal has hype going for it.

Nay.

Motion controllers FTL.

Sorry, but I don't think the wands will become a defacto, even if that's what Sony wants. In order for them to take off, they would need to bundle them with all systems, AND not include the DualShock3. Even if they include both, the thing that developers will see is that only 1 device, the DS3, is owned by almost (because of Sixaxis, but the main input is the same) 100% of system owners. Of course, dropping the DS3 from systems would be an incredibly bad move, as it would make no older games playable out of the box.

So, no, it's just not going to happen.

Right. But what if they do what I said in my previous post in this thread? Make a special PS3 SKU, call it the "PS3 Waggle" (or something else :P), and pack in the PS Eye, the wand and some kind of casual games collection for mass-appealing price tag. Market it just as Microsoft markets the Arcade sku or their upcoming Natal SKU, same thing.

Hmm... but I don't see them doing this. To get the "mass appealing" price, they need to match the Wii and 360 Arcade at $200. And with the EyeToy and wands costing more than the DS3, I don't see them raising their costs to drop another $100 in price.
