Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Anyone believe or hope Microsoft will leave the videogame business?

I would LOVE for Nintendo to leave video gaming, their downfall will come next gen and when it does I will be rather happy about it!

Nintendo got lucky this generation with the motion controls and how easy consumers fell into the hype, this won't happen again next gen, this is when Nintendo will be in trouble just like the previous two gens.

no without xbox 360, ps3 wudn't be as good and without ps3, xbox 360 wouldn't be as good as it is today.

no competition is good.. without Microsoft there would be no fast connection online service, without Sony there would be no ahhhhhhhhhh .... what did Sony do to change the video game industry?

anywho without nintendo there would be no gaming period..

the competition is shit these days anyway compared to Nintendo vs. Sega

Gaming would be a dark and gloomy place without Nintendo. A bunch of graphic whore creating interactive movies rather than games that are all the same, with obscene amounts of violence and overly complex controls, and companies pushing their non gaming features for their consoles. It would be the dark ages of gaming without the big N.

Not the gaming world I would want to be a part of. I would probably have to find a new hobby if that happened..

As long as PS3 stays on top , I don't mind MS in the VG industry. I just don't want them to have excessive lead out of all 3 because that'ld spell doom for all of us

I don't really care if nintendo left they haven't really done anything to me in the gaming section microsoft and sony on the other hand have done alot to me. PS1 was great. PS2 i didnt like. never tried the xbox. and xbox 360 was awesome. ps3 I have mixed opnions but i would like to get one in the future. I would like a pure gaming company to make consoles except nintendo. Maybe bungie or Sega but nintendo is a big no no no. they could have integrated the motion controls and the hardware of this generation but they only incorporated the motion controls. take a look at microsoft they are doing the motion controls and hardware. I would like to see if nintendo makes a great console next generation.

I would rather have SEGA and/or Apple provide the competition to Sony and Nintendo.

There is no difference between Sony and Microsoft in the videogame industry.

One makes software, other makes hardware...and using the money they made doing this they aquired game studios and control them for profits.

Both have other means of staying in busines...hence they don't "need" the gaming division...hence they are only here to get $$$ and make a profit.

Also, I'm sorry but Apple can suck it... Their "we know whats best for our customer" attitude has no place in the videogame industry.

I disagree totally. Many of their ways, IPs, offerings are different and it shows.

Sega/Nintendo/Sony doing battle is how I would have kept it. But regardless, Microsoft brings enough competition to keep the industry healthy. So I see no reason for a departure.

Nah, Disolitude is dead on. If you want MS out of the industry Sony has to go as well. MS followed Sony's blue print into the industry. It's hypocritical for anyone to want MS out of the industry for their business practices when Sony used those very same practices to get to the top of the industry.

microsoft did what it had to do for a console maker to be profitable with high end hardware and thats what people don't understand. The mistake was RROD and developers using DLC the wrong way which isn't microsfts fault. I love DLC when it is made right. Charging for Live is no big deal for me as its really cheap and it is cheaper than eating at burger king once a month for 12 months ( triple whopper go mega). Gaming is cheap if compared to other hobbies and when your gaming you have alot of memories about the great moments.

Do I believe that Microsoft will leave the game industry? No, 360 is now starting to make a profit for Microsoft, and the system is a complete sales success compared to their original Xbox.

Do I hope that Microsoft will leave the game industry? No, that's just mean.

I hate Microsoft, I'll get that out of the way.

But if they leave, I know Sony would try even harder to compete with the Wii and become more casual centric, and that is a horrible thing.

Bottom line, I dont' care if Microsoft leaves, their stock can crash tomorrow for all I care. But someone, anyone, needs to compete with Sony for the HD console market to keep them in check, and keep improvements coming.

Case and point: Madden after exclusive NFL license... No competition led to shit.
