Ah, just reading all the replies in this post makes me smile... Good times, I approve.

They needed something to complain about.

In short, when Nintendo does it, its a gimmick and a mark for those wh othink they're 'hardcore' gamers to make fun of.

But when Microsoft or Sony comes out with a similar device on their own systems, those same people have to defend it because its on their favorite system and 'one upped' Nintendo.

To be fair, the Wii was aimed at the casual audience, Hardcore PS3 360 gamers saw the whole console as a gimmic, the Sony/MS motion controls are aimed at the casual end of Hardcore.

E.G. We have Resident Evil coming out for Sony's motion controller, when the Wii launched, you had those little cartoon dudes to play tennis with.

I think this is more about presentation than people simply having a bias (though I am sure most people do have a bias, myself included)

...you mean...the Miis?  Which both Sony and Microsoft have made their own version of?

The point simply was, no matter how you slice it, the people who mocked Wii for its motion controls and are now obsessing over either Natal or the 'Wand' are pretty much being hypocritical.  Same could be said about all the changes MS and Sony have been aming over the last 2 years that resemble Nintendo, such as 'Avatars' or 'Interactive Menues for selecting games' or etc.

I dont think Sony have anything like that....unless you mean home, which is really more of a bad 2nd life rip off.

And MS have copied the PS eye more than the Wii's motion tech, nobody ever said Sony were ripping off Nintendo when the eyetoy or PS eye were released, that is mainly due to the fact that the eyetoy came out before the Wii, If anything, it is Sony that should be angry as MS and Nintendo that should be angry at Sony over the "GEM" Wiimote clone.

Maybe they just didn't like the currently offered form of motion controls...

I still dont prefer motion controls. I dont even use sixaxis controls for Warhawk. I wish Wii games had control options to play motionless.

Both Sony and Microsoft have gotten much more 'Family Friendly' as of late.  Heck, in the last year, the XBOX360 marketing has gone from 'Halo 3 gritty bootcamp!' to 'LEGO Batman family fun in the Living Room'.  And both companies have publically stated their motion control devices are their answers to Nintendo Wii, despite following those statements with PR nonsense like 'innovating the market for the more hardcore oriented gamer' and 'improving on the innovation of our competitors'.

You thought wrong.

Most PS3 and 360 owners are good people who just want to play some fun games, same as it is with every other console. What you're referring to is a sub-set of internet fanboys, and those go across all consoles. Nintendo fanboys have been equally hypocritical in different ways.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm not very keen on motion controls in any way, shape or form at this point nor will I be for a very long time until someone shows me some real value in it. And that goes for Sony and MS' versions as well, of course.
I don't want them and don't need them, but by all means, get it for yourself if you want, it won't hurt me!

I well remember the post E3 backlash after Natal was announced, whatever happened to the optimism for a new interface like everyone was expected to show for the Wii.  The sad part is that when Natal doesn't live up to the hype (which will be very hard given how big the hype is) then we'll suffer months of gloating from those same people too.  I couldn't care less about what system a device like Natal or the wand comes on, if it produces fun gaming then I'll buy it regardless.  I just don't understand people cutting off their nose to spite their face when it comes to gaming (apart from the obvious money issue).
