If I was a betting man I'd have my money on Mass Effect 2. Famitsu couldn't even give FFXIII 100%. ME2 has a 91 Metascore base from which to improve. It should get Uncharted 2 level reviews if BioWare's claims are to be believed, and they are solid game makers.

Famitsu has only given 1 FF game a perfect score in the past. 39 is still a solid score. While I agree that Bioware are boss, Square Enix are even more boss. FFXII has a metascore of 92. The jump from XII to XIII will be much bigger than the jump from X to XII. I'm almost certain that all main installments in the FF series (since VII) have gotten higher than 90. And as I stated earlier in this thread, they have spent more time on FFXIII than Bioware has on both Mass Effect games.

Still, it's something we'll have to wait and see. I think it's going to be close.

The bet was made WAAAAAAAAAAY before we knew when the game was going to release. I had no idea I would get lucky with such an amazing release date.

Also, FFXIII would have sold a million in Japan first week no matter what. An install base of 4 million is more than enough to guarantee that. I suggest you take a look at the openning weeks of earlier installments in the Final Fantasy series.

Don't get me wrong man, I'm not taking offense to what you are saying, it's all for the sake of argument. But I respectfully disagree. I believe FFXIII would have been able to do this numbers at any point during the year.

FFX did more than 1.7 first week. That part you are right about.

Maybe so, but the average metascore is 91 or 92. So history is against FF XIII making it past 92. Mass Effect doesn't need to improve a great deal to get itself a 93 or 94.
