4 hours?? You're worried about 4 hours??? I have my 80GB motorstorm bundle PS3 on for 6 days straight, 4 days worth of that time was on Folding@Home [running at full throttle]. Where I live, the average day is around 29.5 Celsius [around 85 degrees F].
EDIT: Also, when I started visiting the PSForums I found that there are quite a few people who've had their systems on for over a month with the only time it was shutdown for FW updates that back on again. I'm talkin' launch systems here.
4 ≈ One
wow, you really baby your ps3. i don't have superhero stories like 2 years or even 2 days, but i left mine on for at least a day and didn't think anything of it other than the electricity bill.

thank you all for your' vondaful info.
My trophy syncing problems are no more. After the initial problem not long after MW2 released (just usung that art a timeframe indicator not as a suggested cause) I've sync'd a number of times without any major issues (get the error once, then try syncing via a different route and no worries).

The rule is 6 inches of air flow around the PS3. Youll never run into any heat problem if you do so.
