Forums - Gaming Discussion - Eco-Box: a greener way to protect games

If ecology didn't exist corporate PR departments would have to invent it.

It's always funny how companies save money on things like this and call this ecology.

BTW my L4D2 box doesn't show EA anywhere on the box, nor the credits. It says Valve.

All EA does is distribute it. Valve develops and publishes it.

I think if more companies could make being environmentally more friendly more profitable we'd already be a lot further along the way to being carbon neutral then we currently are.

Nothing wrong with making money and reducing ones impact on the environment at the same time.

Can someone explain why this is a bad thing? Doesn't seem like a big deal at all.

You are absolutely right. But there is something wrong with overstating the degree to which the company is reducing its impact as a way to dupe consumers into thinking they are virtuous and have the effects on the environment as a major priority.

Making your unsustainable packaging 25% less unsustainable is laughable. It's still unsustainable.

@ ameratsu. It's not a bad thing per se (unless discs start getting all scratched up). However, the fact that it isn't a particularly good thing (environmentally speaking), but it's being promoted as such (rather than the simple truth behind the decision being put forward that it is a cheaper thing) makes it a rather dodgy thing.

Obviouslty thats true.

im sure someone has said this, but certain Blu-Rays currently use this type of low plastic casing as well. Its just a matter of time till the whole world uses less and less than it needs to.
And this is a good thing.

If they cared about enviroment they would go back to paper boxes like we had few years ago. And for that matter they would make cases to fit the size of disk.
