I dont know... with sony's financial reports it seems to me like sony is shooting themselves in the foot with each PS3 sold.

Hopefully they show a profit next quarter for all those PS3s sold...

If Sony's financials were in question, its stock price would be going to zero.  Its not.  Nice try though.

I guess you haven't been looking at their stock, it was wholloped in 08 and isn't up that much since then.

2008 was only the greatest financial meltdown since the great drepression.  And Sony's issues seem to be shared to Japan as a whole with the ever stronger Yen aganist the Dollar and Euro.  Look at any Japanese export stock and pretty much they all look the same with a few exceptions.

lol...you don't know much on how stock works do you?

Sony is far away from being bankrupt...and even if they do go tits up, their stock wont be worth zero. they have buildings, assets, products that would be liquidated and stock would never go to zero.

Bottom line is, according to last quarterly report gaming division is losing money, even with PS3s sold...

I was just wondering why someone would be quick to jump to Sony quarterly reports when the OP is talking about how the ps3 sold 1.5 million more units than the X360 since the slim.  The two dont go hand in hand, your were just trying to belittle the success Sony has had by bringing this to light.  Thats all.

I don't know... selling a lot is usually proportional with making money. When you're selling and not making money, something is wrong. Im just saying that selling large doesn't seem to be working for them if they are losing money on consoles. Hopefully next quarter they sell enough software to make up for the hardware loss...

Sony was near the top of the list of Japanese companies. It fell off very quickly. It's stock has been hurt very badly even compared to other big Japanese companies, the recession was just the trigger but the problems were fundamental.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

www.xnagg.com/zombieasteroids/publish.htm

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Quite interesting to consider how the PS3 vs 360 situation could possibly pan out.

1. PS3 could dominate Xbox more and more due to software, brand name, slightly superior hardware and possiby a surge in PS3 penetration in NA.

2. The 360 maintains a large enough lead untill Natal launches and the VG industry is set alight by a strong Natal launch with tons of quality software, an affordable price and a small, sexy and inexpensively redesigned 360.

I bet we'll get something in between. I really hope one of them goes for the kill, but I don't see it happening.

My vote: PS3, because Sony is more vulnerable than MS and MS will lose with style. (style = lots of money spening = more fun for us)

The 360 is still twice the price of the PS3, What do you want?

lol...I love system selling excuses.

how about this one:

The 360 doesn't even come with bluray, or wifi...and PS3 at same price can only outsell it by 1.5 million after a price cut? And with a new redesigned model?  Thats sad...

its sad that people can't see a good deal when they see it? Yes I agree.. there bias' get in the way of there decisions, along with misinformation.

This is still spin, talking negatively about financials when the topic is sales. Shall we talk all-time profit/loss in the gaming industry?  All time sales?  Nah, let's keep to recent sales, which is the topic of the thread.

PS3 gives people quite a bit in terms of features, and online gameplay is free, contributing to losses perhaps but giving gamers a great deal at this price point.   And it is kicking the hell out of 360 in sales.  360 will have to drop to $149/$249 or lower to stem the tide.  The topic is sales.

why do people bring financials into it? that shit has nothing to do with us, leave it to sony! its thier business.
