Forums - Gaming Discussion - Activision wants online fees for Call of Duty!

Provided this is all true, it´s just one more example of how it´s funny that these supposedly business "geniuses" who run these companies put franchises in the path to self destruction.

Love or hate Malstrom, I agree with him when he says one of the worst things about the 'games industry' is how most people on top, the decision makers, are so disconnected from gaming despite running a gaming company...also thinking first about revenue instead of customers when it should be the other way around.

I also agree with him when he says Modern Warfare 2 is the peak for the COD series and it´s downhill from here on out.

Lawl?

Anyhow, it's pretty much long been confirmed Activision has overtaken EA as the most hated game company (tm), should we really be surprised? And no, it's likely not going to be a monthly charge. They wouldn't start it off for free then charge for it, how much face would they lose? If they were  going to charge a monthly fee you'd all already be paying it. This is probably going to be microtransactions or that thing EA did with Madden, letting you buy your way through the game. So I'm thinking buy perks/weapons etc.

Either way gaming's getting ridiculous. When companies get too big it seems everything goes to hell. In perfect world all companies would stay in that intermediary stage, where they're big enough to get things done but still small enough to retain whatever vision they had when the company started. Ultimately of course, shareholders and money get in the way of everything.

PSN: chenguo4
Current playing: No More Heroes

Strange how they made this declaration after selling millions of copies. They over charged for an expansion pack of cod 4 and sold record numbers. Probably think that they have sucked people in to buy MW 2 so they can sucker them more by charging for online pay. Lucky I did not buy this, will be renting.

With the launch of Halo:Reach, 4 Halo games would be released since 2007.

4 Halo games in 4 years.

Milking the franchise, no ?

A Cod game also releases every year.

Its not as a huge deal as CoD, but if MS continue making Halo games every year, franchise will decline a little bit, no ?

So they both have been having yearly releases, what's your point?  If the releases are high quality what's the problem with that?  Bungie isn't charging you to play Halo 3, and Activision is considering it.  Considering there isn't any link at all between Bungie and Activision bringing Halo into the discusison is trolling, plain and simple.

Yeah becouse keeping 50% profit margins on hardware and selling 3 years old games for the same starting price is so user friendly.

Nintendo is honorable second place just a little behind activision when it comes to milking people.

Somebody feel free to remake this thread without a flamebait OP. A source would be nice as well.
