Forums - Gaming Discussion - Activision wants online fees for Call of Duty!

Activison / Blizzard, I used to respect you so much, now... : /

Around the Network

For an xbox user i would feel horrible.

Step 1: Pay your ISP a monthly fee

Step 2: Pay X-BOX live a subscription fee to play games in general

Step 3: Pay for every individual game your playing online a subscription fee

Triple dipping FTL

First off I play crap loads of games. I generally play 3 at a time and then I'll have friends send me messages asking me if i want to play an online game with them and every now and then i feel like playing an old classic online.

Now what happens if this is implemented with all games. when i want to pop in that old classic or some friends are saying "hey man lets play a good ol round of burnout paradise" A game i don't normally play unless im getting messages to play with some friends. Uh-oh?! I havn't played in 3 months. Would you like to pay $10 to play? Hell no.....

I can see this happening with MW2. Every-now and then I got messages to play COD4 before MW2 came out. I rarely play it but i would pop it in every few weeks or so and play a quick round or two with some friends and the same shits gonna happen with MW2 eventually. I refuse to pay for something that should be there in the first play.

Were the record breaking sales not good enouph for you?

CURRENTLY PLAYING:  Warframe, Witcher 2

I didn't see any sources in the OP so I went out and found one just to make sure.

^Diablo II isn't an MMO.

Do you think people will accept this? I think they will!

Close enough. But you get what I meant. I never played Everquest, Star Wars Galaxies, WOW or any of those kind of games because of online fees. I'm not going to pay for an online service, a game, xbox live, and a subscripiton for a game, and even possible dlc on top of that.

I play WoW every now and then. But I would never pay for Call of Duty.

You wouldn't pay for any DLC? Some DLC is worth it you know?

You misunderstand. I buy a lot of dlc. When I believe it's worth the asking price and when i feel it adds enough new material. I was only making a point. It's rediculous to ask someone to pay an internet subscripiton, a live fee, and call of duty subscription and on top of that I'm sure they would still be milking the already highly priced $10 map packs as was the case with the past two titles.

PS3 Trophies

Doubt they'd go pay-to-play. They seem interested in finding other ways to charge gamers for additional content.

You think they might try charging people extra for dedicated servers?

Why the FUCK does this become a anti-360 thread suddenly? Why all the bashing on Live users?

OT:  I don't play Modern Warfare online so this doesn't affect me at all.

They will do what they feel like doing. Either people will roll over and pay it or they will find another game to play.

Tease.

Screw Activision! And... if this seeps into the Blizzard side of things with SC2 and D3, then that would be the one thing that would make me turn away from those francises (and Bilzzard) for good.

Activision seems to be on quite a roll with pissing off their user base.  Their newest declaration may top the heap: Activision wants to start charging an online fee to play their Call of Duty games, similar to World of Warcraft.

Speaking at BMO Capital Market Conference, the CFO of Activision Blizzard, Thomas Tippl, said, “You should expect us to test and ultimately launch additional online monetization models of some of some of our biggest franchises like Call of Duty.”

While he admits it may be difficult to replicate the same format that World of Warcraft uses, there is no doubt that Tippl is looking forward to charging even more to play Activision’s games.  I guess charging $60 for the games with a few $10 map packs thrown in isn’t enough…

Activision wins single handed for trying to kill of it's most popular francise.

Honorable metion is microsoft with HALO.

Sure thing buddy.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.
