Forums - Sales Discussion - PS3 will almost certainly beat 360

So, I hear PS3 once more outsold 360 last week...

"Well certainly with the Xbox 360, we had some challenges at the launch. Once we identified that we took control of it. We wanted to do it right by our customers. Our customers are very important to us." -Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb (10/2013). Note: RRoD was fixed with the Jasper-revision 3 years after the launch of 360

"People don't pay attention to a lot of the details."-Yusuf Mehdi explaining why Xbone DRM scheme would succeed

"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it's called Xbox 360,”-Don Mattrick

"The region locking of the 3DS wasn't done for profits on games"-MDMAlliance

Citan sound like Satan. This thread is "flamey" as hell. Is flamey a word?

And my reply to the OP: We'll see, won't we?

I agree the PS3 will overtake the 360 but it won't be anytime soon. I don't think it will be until 2012 at the earliest.

I'll do a signature later

Worldwide the PS3 will win, but in North America ... I think they're going to have to have to settle for third place.

Even if they outsell the 360 by an average of 150k every single month it would take like 4 more years to catch the 360 in North America.

So I guess MS can take solace in that. From Sony's P.O.V. that really can't be a great thing either ... to go from no.1, straight to no.3 in the all important North American market.

I am gonna wait for this holidays to actually make any prediction. If Final Fantasy XIII and GT 5 are able to move hardware sony is hoping them to be, then PS3 has a chance in catching up the XBox360

Considering all the xbox give-aways after red ring of death failures, PS3 has allready beat btox.

You do realize this is a videogame SALES tracking website, right?  Think before you post

Nonono amigo. When a store sell one xbox and give away another it`s considered a sale. The failure one is trashed.

I know because I own a shop. You have to register the one given away.

You do realize the more major game retailers push harder for PS3 giveaways then 360, right (Wii the most of course)? Just pointing that out

???

To try to answer your argument? xbox have a enormous failure rate. We can agree on that? When one is red ringed the person goes back to the shop;

"Hey, this is broken."

"Here a new one for ye. Just let me register it."

"pling, pling"

Then it`s considered as another sale. The customer that were complaining have "bought" two btox.

Just keep that in mind when people are bragging about salesnumbers.

So here my question for ye: What do you mean by push harder for PS3 giveaways?

I`m not talking about a quiz where you can win a console.

Even if we were to accep last week's numbers as representative of a new baseline, with the PS3 selling ~60 000 more units per week than the Xbox 360, it's going to take nearly two and a half years for the PS3 to catch the 360.

And we have to assume that in that time Microsoft is going to sit there twiddling it's thumbs, idly watching it's market share disappear.

nojustno

I hate it when people bring up that statistic...the PS3 would take 2.5 years to catch up if and only if there weren't a thing called holidays! When you take that into account, plus the boosts that software gives, that 2.5 years can be reduced by a lot!

Or expanded a lot, you fail to remeber the 360's lineup. A laugh at people who think the market is going to stay the way it is. the people who can't fathom the thought that MS IS going to be pushing new hardware that has been hyped more than anything else the "other" two have shown. Also, that MS IS going to have some pretty sweet games coming their way. But whatever, do you like your crow BBq'd or fried?

Don't forget the coming PS3 line-up - GT5, GoW3, FF13 (Japan), MAG, Heavy Rain, Ratchet and Clank can compete with anything. People who claim that the 360 has a better line-up seem to be living in 2007 IMHO.

People mentioning price-cut as a solution fail to see that the PS3 can also make cuts in return. Blu-ray is also building steam and in most video rental stores in my area they are eating up space from DVDs. This will only increase in the next 3 years. MS will not stop and stare but nor will Sony.

I'm not discounting the PS3s linup, it just doesn't seem to be as good or extensive as the 360 lineup.

Anyway, Blueray is a non-issue here because it is part of a dying breed of media, and is also NOT a big system seller anymore, especially with the advent of cheap Bluray players and good DVD upconverters (who wants to pay hundreds to upgrade their DVD collection to bluray when they can get almost the same quality and keep their DVDs?).

Now, Sony already did their little pricecut jamboree, do you honestly think they can, or will do another one soon?

I don't see the wand being a system saver either, nobody was really excited about it because to the average consumer, it looks like the wiimote combined with the eyetoy. Natal was something completely new, something nobody (in the console side) has done yet, so there was a great buzz around it. While it won't be a huge system mover, it certainly will do more for the 360 than the wand will do for the PS3.

Live in your glory moments, for they shall soon pass.
