If you don't think Mario Galaxy will solve the Wii's problems, how do you expect unknown and untested new IPs like Uncharted and Haze to solve the PS3's problems? I would be willing to bet that no single game in the PS3's life ever sells as much as Mario Galaxy does on the Wii. I'm not sure what you are calling the end of the PS3 drought, but if the PS3 drought is over, the Wii drought is more than solved.

Nope. Wii has a real problem with quality software. Mario Galaxy will sell a lot but it's only one game. PS3 keeps steady stream of solid games since August. I don't expect new games to solve a PS3's problem because there is no problem at all. Before end of the year PS3 will have planty very interesting games appealing to broad audiency. N64 and GC have few heavy hitters too but it isn't enough. No sport games, shooters, racers - key genres outside Japan etc. Nintendo should be extremely happy with GTAIV delay.

This is an unbelievably offbalanced point of view.  The Wii has trouble with quality software? The Wii has 3 9.0+ game.  The PS3 has 1, and it's been out on the 360 for months before it was even released on the PS3.  The Last PS3 game released that scored an 8+ is Heavenly Sword and it's the low end. You want to talk about software diversity problems?  How about some statistics:

Of the PS3's 27 7.5+ rated games, 7 are exclusive.  The PS3 still has yet to recieve an exclusive 9.0+ game, and only 1 non-exclusive one.  As for diversity of game library: of the PS3's 27 games 11 are sports, 7 shooters, 4 racers, 3 action, 1 RPG, 1 adventure

Of the Wii's 15 7.5+ rated games, 11 are exclusive.  The Wii has 1 exclusive 9.0+ game and 3 9.0+ games total. The diversity of it's library is as follows: 4 sports, 2 adventure, 2 minigame, 2 action, 1 simulation, 1 shooter, 1 RPG/platformer, 1 puzzle, and 1 racer.

What's this mean?  It means the PS3 lacks exclusive good games.  Meaning if you want to play the PS3's games, the 360 is by far the better option because it's cheaper and has it's own robust library of exclusive games.  If you want to play the Wii's good games, you need a Wii.  If you want to play the most genres on one system, the Wii covers more genres than the PS3.

So, I repeat, if the PS3 doesn't have problems with software, the Wii never did.  As far as the PS3 having lots of big games left this year and Mario Galaxy not being that big, go ahead and pick 5 PS3 games from now to December 31st on the PS3, and I will bet you Super Mario Galaxy outsells every single one of them combined lifetime worldwide.

The Wii 9+ games are in fact Cube games turned into Wii ones that the forgiving press dont push too hard in the graphics/control/sound departments .You countint RE2 ,Zelda TP and some more as Wii exclusives when you can play them in the likes of the Cube and PS2 isnt very fair .

The PS3 has had since Heavenly Sword at least these games rated more than 8 .Skate (8.8 in IGN ) ,Warhawk (8.8 in IGN ) ,Sega Rally (8 in IGN and 8.8 in IGN UK ) ,NHL (8.8 in IGN ) ,Eye of Judgement (8 in IGN ) ,Folklore ( 9 in IGN ) ,Colin Mc Rae DIRT (8.4 in IGN ) .

Face it ,the PS3 library eats alive the Wii one .

Diomedes, for once shut your fanboy trap will ya. The Nintendo bashing without any descent argument is getting annoying.

Best be careful this thread has become a magnet for ban bets. Nintendo has a iffy relationship with the peripheral market. What strikes me is that no game outside of fit has confirmed use of the peripheral. Nintendo has a terrible precedent with unique peripherals. They also seem to be hopped up on them at the moment. Wheels, guns, and now a boogie board.

When Nintendo becomes gimmicky things have a way of going terribly wrong. Things like the power glove, the super scope, the power pad, rob, and the four score. Were not to my knowledge overwhelming commercial successes. Each of them looked fantastic on paper, but people seem to quickly tire of buying peripherals.

Fellow posters need to be really cautious of this game it has all the hallmarks of a product that is not going to be a massive success. History has shown time and again that physical peripherals are a very hit or miss affair especially with Nintendo. Do not get swept up into a hysteria, or a optimistic outlook. This game is not a guaranteed commodity say like a popular game series. View it as an experimental venture. There is no real precedent on whether the market wants this kind of hardware.

If you are going to argue with me, at least take some time to check your facts.  I did not count RE4 or Zelda TP as Wii exclusives.  I did not count any games that are on the PS2 or GC as Wii exclusives. It's kind of sad that you will outright lie to try and hide valid statistics.

Skate has under 20 reviews for the PS3 version so isn't recorded on gamerankings yet.  Eye of Judgement is the same, but is under an 8 to this point anyway.  Folklore was included, and is a 7.7 on gamerankings.  Sorry, I didn't know DiRT was released the week after Heavenly Sword. Trust me you don't want me to use IGN's review scores because they review Virtual Console games as well, which gives the Wii an extra 8 9.0+ games.  I'm using gamerankings because it's a fair and balanced collection of all reviews.

He didn't claim that ANY games available on the Gamecube (Resident Evil 4, Zelda: TP) were exclusive being that he claimed 3 90%+ games (Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 4, and Zelda: TP) with one exclusive (Metroid Prime) ...

Now, rather than cherry picking a particular site which supports your argument, let's look at Gamerankings.com top 10 PS3 games released in the past 3 months:

I would say that a company that raises console prices 100% and forces new media formats is a loss for the industry and consumers.

Who can identify these numbers. They are relevant to this discussion, and somehow very knowledgeable posters have chosen not to discuss these. The current sales in Japan fall in line with a pattern. That is apparently independent of the performance of the other two consoles.

The Wii has lost over two thirds of its sales volume in just two months. Thats a impressive decline in sales. For two months Wii sales have slipped week after week. Should make even the ardent fan ask if the Wii is the end all and be all of gaming how could it have sacrificed so much volume.

There is a difference between selling five thousand less units and selling fifty thousand less units even if the margin denoted in percentages is the same. There is some valid discussion to be had here. I would love to read more analysis, and less belly aching.

Basically the assumption seems to be well its that time of the year, and that may well be part of it. However does that mean that demand might not also be falling. Remember this was a very hard to get item if people were trying to get it for months why aren't the units still being snatched up at a much higher level.

1. The Wii was up worldwide last week by a moderate amount (~3000).  Just somethig to keep in mind.

2.  The ???? = 28,226 by my calculations (WW - (US+Others), so it experienced a moderate jump that week, and a significant fall the next.  Hm.

Argument about exclusives is pretty faint. I don't care who else also plays for example R6Vegas... It's a solid game. Game which is far beyond Wiis level (graphics wise). I don't think X360 is a better choice for multiplatform games. It's cheaper - yes, but it isn't a better value. High failure rate doesn't appeal to me too. Personally I use PS3 also as a Blu-Ray player so this feature alone pushes me into Sony's camp. People don't buy a system only because of current games. PS3 has strong upcoming lineup of exclusives too.
