Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is Wii Sports Resort lifting up Wii HW?

Well the 6-8 weeks is basically the word of mouth effect, since the non-gaming community doesn't seem to be on top of new game releases, they pretty much go by recommendations and mainstream media hype.

Somehow I doubt Nintendo is in any kind of rush to drop the price of their most successful console of all time.

Yeah, they are making a nice profit off of every console sold. Why stop now?

I somehow doubt Nintendo will do a thing till after the holidays at the earliest.

It's going to keep pushing hardware for the next year or so. It's also focusing third party support and bringing in a new stream of peripheral revenue. How many stand alone M+ dongles have Nintendo sold in these last few weeks? A lot of money's worth. That's how many.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Well, in 6 to 8 weeks, they will most likely see that WSR isn't really lifting Wii sales that much, so they'll plan to have WSR as the new bundled game with the Wii along with Wii Motion + and a new price point of $225.00 that will lift the Wii up through the holidays and result in WSR ending up with impressive sales data at the end of the day.

I know. All those bundles shoull make sure it gets supported in further games.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Looks to me like it has impressive sales data at the start of the day.

Iwata also said that he thinks it is unlikely WSR will lift up Wii sales "2 to 3 times," which is what it will need to return to last year's levels and put Nintendo on pace for their sales target. This came in the exact same responce that the 6-8 weeks quote came from.

So in the best case scenario, it will take a combination of WSR, Wii Fit Plus, NSMBW and other games to get Wii sales all the way back up. NSMBW is the only one that might drive tons and tons of hardware all by itself, since the others are sequels to Wii games.

I'd look for a black Wii, and NSMBW as an alternate pack-in game before a price cut though. They can still make a price cut or introduce new SKUs basically all the way up to the week of black friday.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."
