Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Monster Hunter 3 review score by Famitsu

Nothing in terms of relevance.

For example last year they gave 3 perfect scores to Super Smash Bros Brawl, Metal Gear Solid 4 and 428: Fūsasareta Shibuya de. In my opinion these games don't deserve that high score, at best I would give them an 8 or 9 out of 10.

By the way I don't say Monster Hunter 3 doesn't deserve a great score, the game looks amazing, but not a 10 or a "40" in this case.

Or maybe this is the reason.

Since 2005 a perfect score from Famitsu means nothing, they have zero credibility. I guess the next "40" is Final Fantasy XIII.

Why does it means nothing?

I guess he's trying to say two things.

1. I hate FF12 and they gave it a 40.

2. They've been giving out 40s left and right this generation so they have less value.

wouldn't that mean the this gen has been the best. the games they have given a perfect score this gen have being games that we could expect famitsu to give high scores to, in other words, not surprising(except for 428) i remember when people were like "game of the century is here"when GTA4 started getting perfect scores from reviewers here in the west, bue screamed blasphemy when 428 or FFXII got a perfect score in famitsu, people still dont understand that japanese have their general state as well as westerns have their general tastes, and for the most part, taste can cause a big tilt in reviews.

Hey, I'm not trying to say that any game does or not deserve the score.

Although, I wouldn't go to hard on the GTA4 thing. It won "Biggest Disappointment of the Year" here in the 2008 awards.

@outlawauron

I love Final Fantasy XII, in fact is my favourite game of last gen, amazing battle system, long, hard, great graphics, lots of optional tasks etc.

If I had to give in this generation a perfect score to a Japanese game, that game would undoubtedly be Demon's Souls, Famitsu only gave it a 29/40.

2005 was the year Nintendogs got rated 40/40. Thats what the guy is referring to.

But then again, Nintendogs deserves it for what it is.

I love FF XII as well, and Demon's Souls while I'm at it.

Demon's Souls is most likely my Game of the Year so far.

Sounds encouraging.

Details on the review:

The maps and monsters have been completely remade, making things fresh.

The classic Monster Hunter feel grabs you the more you play. Old and new mix equally here, and it's been refined, deepened, and brought to unimaginable heights.

The controls and gameplay has been refined and are pretty kind to players. Exploring the new maps is more fun than I thought it'd be; even hunting for mushrooms is exciting. Of course, hunting the new monsters is a constant stream of surprises, leaving me incredibly satisfied. The unique parts of online mode are good, but the single play here is just amazing.

Although everything here is new, the Monster Hunter atmosphere is unchanged. Underwater hunting is a little bewildering at first, but once you get used to it, the whole hunting process is a little more fun. Lots of little things have been improved upon, and the intensity of running into a monster is unparalleled.
