Forums - Gaming Discussion - When did you notice a division in sides in gaming.

Definitely in the SNES vs. Genesis era were there truly lines drawn in the sand.

That's the first generation were I finally saw some rivalry, I knew some who really liked their SNES and some who really liked their Genesis.

Funnily enough, knowing owners of both systems resulted in learning by necessity how to play Mortal Kombat on both systems.  Also as a result, it meant I didn't really care what system someone owned.  I mean really, I could perform a fatality after beating the tar out of you on either one.

Wound up owning both systems anyway.  So much fun... those were some great days in video game history.

Well this GEN

because of the ridiculous negativity with the Ps3

SO I supported SONY n PS3

BUT AT HEART

MARIO FTW - can't ever forget the first time amazement of playing super Mario World

Supporter of

 SONY & Nintendo

Consoles owned - SNES, N64, PS, GC, PS2, PSP, PS3

 I DO NOT support Xbox

My prediction for YEARS END:

WII - 18.3 Million

Xbox 360 - 15 Million

Playstation 3 - 8.5 Million

I think the whole fanboy wars pretty much started in the SNES and Genesis generation. Everyone remembers the Sonic vs Mario thing so that's probably when this all started and got to where we are at today. ANd yet fanboys have yet to change in 15 years.

It's just XBOX that I HATE

Though it´s impossible for me not to have a 'favorite console',I´ve always managed not to limit myself to it....don´t know if it´s possible to be 100% unbiased when it comes to these things, but I´m as close as it can get to an unbiased gamer.

I didn't really notice that there was something else than Nintendo consoles until the Playstation came out. Before, everybody had a Gameboy and we grew up with playing Mario Land, Wario Land, Donkey Kong Land and Tetris, and some people also had a SNES or a NES where I also could play Mario and Donkey Kong.

Later, me and a friend of mine also got a SNES and we played very often together. I remember that one time, we where both at a classmates place and he had a Sega console, probably a Genesis, I'm not sure. Me and my friend only refered to this console as "the black nintendo" because Nintendo meant gaming for us.

After that, I got a Nintendo 64 and my friend got a PS1. That was when I realised that there is something else, and also when I understood that I am at Nintendo's side. The reason for that is simple: For me, their games are the best.

Currently Playing: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC), Dragon Quest IV (DS)

Last Game beaten: The Rub Rabbits(DS)

I don't really get into companies but I have had favorite systems over the years... In order:

Atari 2600
NES
Sega Genesis
N64
Playstation
Xbox
Xbox 360

I'm not including handhelds or there would be a few mentions of Gameboy in there.

I first had a Super Nes but only for a summer because I borrowed it from a friend. I loved Super Mario World. From there I had to get a N64 to play mario again, same with Cube, and same again with Wii. Although I did get a PS2 aswell, only for GTA.

Nintendo still doomed?
Feel free to add me on 3DS or Switch! (PM me if you do ^-^)

Genesis vs SNES was the most heated of all time I think. Sega used every chance it got to smear Nintendo. Nintendo didn't do too much smearing, but their marketing was just as fierce. Since in this generation, the technology was able to bring the arcade home. There where already 2 sets of fanboys.

Here were their arguments that I remember:

Genesis:
-Played sports games better
-"Blast Processing"
-Mature titles availble, Mortal Kombat had blood while the SNES version removed it, along with lame "Fatalities"
-Sonic, mascot with an edge

SNES:
-Played RPGs better
-Mode 7
-Mario
-Played Street Fighter 2 better, this made a huge difference
