The KZ2 "loads" were like minor hiccups at most. Very well masked.
HL2 on the other hand, being based on a 2004 game engine, had ridiculous in-game load times. Compare that to L4D several years later, and the updated Source engine completely eliminated those loads.
And although the constant installs were extremely annoying, once installed, there were no hiccups, texture pop ins, load times, etc. present during game play. Bigger install would have been better in the case of MGS4; install once and never deal with it again while playing.
It will be very interesting to see how the new MGS Rising game engine will deal with a no install situation on the Xbox.
