Forums - Sony Discussion - No Mandatory Install For Uncharted 2

Yea, but it's great that they're doing it without relying on huge installs (barring MGS4) even if there's a little bit of pop-in. Though there were a few cases in Uncharted where the pop-in was extreme.

As with games like the Half-Life series, I don't mind quick loading times during lulls. Those didn't phase me on bit in Killzone 2.

where the heck naughty dog learn all this stuff?
jeez, they should share a little of their knowledge.

Naughty Dog aren't anything special, most PS3 exclusives have no mandatory install.  Are a few exceptions (MGS4 being the worst offender).

not talking about install here. they're just good at what they do, very good infact.

The KZ2 "loads" were like minor hiccups at most. Very well masked.

HL2 on the other hand, being based on a 2004 game engine, had ridiculous in-game load times. Compare that to L4D several years later, and the updated Source engine completely eliminated those loads.

And although the constant installs were extremely annoying, once installed, there were no hiccups, texture pop ins, load times, etc. present during game play. Bigger install would have been better in the case of MGS4; install once and never deal with it again while playing.

It will be very interesting to see how the new MGS Rising game engine will deal with a no install situation on the Xbox.

That's why I said Half-Life series. Still, the load times in Half-Life 2 were reduced after some updates. I shutter to remember how long I was waiting there on launch day.

Its because Naughty Dog are lazy developers who only make games for one platform. They are lazy like pretty much every Sony 1st/2nd party developer. Capcom on the other hand are not lazy, they make games which work great on three platforms.

Tease.

You're my hero.

I hope one day I can put as much spin as you do on every single topic.

The day that people from these forums stop calling developers lazy; who either don't work on the PS3 out of choice (Valve etc), and for those who have to make sacrafices for making 2-4 platforms work and that sacrafice impinges on the PS3 in some way, then I will continue to poke fun at certain treasured PS3 developers.

Tease.

They are, of course, Naughty Gods!

The naysayers, on the other hand, are merely comic relief.

Naughty Dog are insanely good developers. They have never made a single bad game. They should have never let go of crash bandicoot. I wish Insomniac kept Spyro too. :(

Naughty Dog are just awesome! SURE THAT UNCHARTED 2 WILL BE IN MY GAMES COLLECTION LIKE THE 1st one!
