Article uses terms Im not familiar with...

So BR is about 5% and DD 10% of the packaged movie sales, meaning DVD + others is ~85%

These are the numbers I interpreted from the articles.

Total market (Sellthrough and Rentals): $9.73 Billion (3.9%)
DVD
Blu-ray
Digital Distribution: $968 Million (21%)

Sellthrough Market: (13.5%)
DVD
Blu-ray: $407 Million (91%)
Digital Distribution: $196 Million

Rental Market: $3.4 Billion (8.3%)
DVD: (2.4%)
Blu-ray: (62.4%)
Digital Distribution: $772 Million

So all I can really say is that DD is 9.95% of the total market, and 22.7% of the rental market.

I'm not 100% sure that the $407M figure is just for sellthrough, but with 20 million discs being shipped in the second quarter alone, that seems reasonable.

Looks like Blu-ray is here to stay for a while. Same with digital distribution. I never see why both can't co-exist. For me personally, physical media is always better and I won't do DD for more than rental.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
