Forums - Sales Discussion - Would a PS3 price cut do it?

CrazzyMan said: well you see, u can`t watch with your mobile 1080p Full HD moovies, and well, you can`t play games which looks like CG moovies, you see my point.. ? =) It`s ok for you to buy new cell for 300-1000$, spent 30$/monthy, but hard to pay 100$ more for ps3? =)) You can`t because you just haven`t see ingame so many PS3 AAA titles, but this year you will see.. and then ps3 will become necessity.
Well maybe Europeans are crazy, but I don't know a single person who has spend more than $200 on a Cellphone ... most people will get a contract and pay (at most) $100 for a phone Anyways ... every month after the NPD numbers have come out it seems like I get to argue why the "Next Month" will not be the PS3's month or why the PS3 will not perform well at its current price; regardless on that I have yet to be wrong people keep arguing that the PS3 will be a smash success.

just when insomaniacs has hyped any game, or get misstrust?
HappySqurriel said: A lot of people bought Gears of War but if you look at the sales objectively you'll notice that the XBox 360 did not really go to any amazing new level after the release of the game; the sales are respectable in North America and Europe but are not amazing. I have argued since the XBox 360's release that $400 was too much for most people to pay and I believe that this is what is keeping the XBo 360 from selling more.
that`s just because xbox360 sux by it`self, like first xbox sucked. people don`t trust M$, don`t want pay to play online(for ps3 it`s free like and pc). people were sure, that gears of war soon will be released on PC, like many xbox360 games. to buy a console there must be atlest 5-10 AAA exclusive titles for many people. and PS3 will have them this autumn.
HappySqurriel said: Now, if you look at the 12 month period between May 2002 and April 2003 you will notice that it is the biggest 12 months for the PS2 largely because it was the first full year where the PS2 was under $200 ...
of`course price drop will boost sales, but till ps3 is doing fine, they will not drop price. p.s. do you understand, that only with few really good games on ps3 they already sold 2 mln. for 600$, and this is without eurolunch, without HOME and LTB?

Stromprophet said: The reason they price cut was because PS2 price dropped and they knew they would not be able to keep their system alive at 300 dollars and compete against the PS2, and also the gamecube which was also cheaper. WAS I THE ONLY ONE GAMING BACK THEN? I don't see how none of you remember this.
Actually, Microsoft was scheduled to hold a press conference on the eve of e3, the info leaked on IGN and others that Microsoft would announce an Xbox price cut at said press conference, so Sony preemtively announced a the price cut first.

Lifetime Sales Prediction - 6/29/2013
Wii U - 38 million
XBOX One - 88 million
Playstation 4 - 145 million

Pathetic English? Give me a break. How about your foreign language? Please don't tell me you are pretty good at French. It's easy to criticize when you are a native speaker. If someone is understandable I see no point for such oafish remarks.

CrazzyMan said: That Guy said: What's up with all the Elf Avatar things? Maybe i'm out of the loop. Alright, Crazzyman, I spend maybe 30 bucks a month for my mobile phone. I've had it about a year now, and the last one I had I've had for about 3 years. Most people I know change up their phones once every 2-3 years or so, and probably spend more on service. I believe you are making a flawed comparison on mobile phones and the PS3. Last I checked, I don't carry my Ps3 everywhere with me, and I can't make phone calls with it. Also, people with Mobile phones (especially in the business world) consider the mobile phone to be a necessity. I can't make the same claim with the PS3. well you see, u can`t watch with your mobile 1080p Full HD moovies, and well, you can`t play games which looks like CG moovies, you see my point.. ? =) It`s ok for you to buy new cell for 300-1000$, spent 30$/monthy, but hard to pay 100$ more for ps3? =)) You can`t because you just haven`t see ingame so many PS3 AAA titles, but this year you will see.. and then ps3 will become necessity.
Who said i BOUGHT any of my cell phones? I get them for free from my contract (or at least at a heavily subsidized price) and then pay the monthly fee for cell service. That's like saying, hey my jackhammer is 600 dollars.... but can you play Videogames and watch HD movies on it? No! I don't expect it to! I expect it to break crap! The same way I don't expect my PS3 to tear up a street. Trying to make the PS3 more versatile than a cell phone is still a stretch. I see my cell phone as more of a tool, not so much an entertainment device. As a tool, I use it more often and thus my justification for a phone is in its usefulness. That's my point. If I get stuck in the middle of no where and I'm lost, a PS3 won't do me much good, will it?

Man, either you are Washimule or most PS3 fans have pathetic english, a poor understanding of the general public and an amazing belief that people only care about graphics and processing power ...
That was uncalled for. And if you don't understand what CPU's and Graphics bring to a game as a whole...Then maybe you should reverse that statement towards yourself.

I understand quite well what cpu and graphics mean to games, but I'm not willing to pay an arm and a leg for them, no matter how great they are. No matter how anyone tries to change it, the Wii, 360 and PS3 are all toys.

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

For all those expecting a PS3 price drop next year here are the words straight from Sony's mouth. It appears price cuts will be unlikely for the next couple of years. I suppose things could always change, but this seems to be Sony's stance for now. "Although analysts say price reductions would benefit PS3 sales, Sony isn't likely to make any price cuts for at least another two years, said Kimberly Otzman, a spokeswoman for Sony Computer Entertainment America. She noted a similar time frame for lowered prices for the PS2. "We probably expect the same for PS3," Otzman said, adding that while the console's price is higher than competitors', it comes completely packaged so consumers don't have to buy extra equipment or attachments." http://kotaku.com/gaming/ps3/sony-ps3-price-cut-not-likely-for-two-years-239816.php

Heck, for all we know Sony may wait until a AAA game release and then say 'Oh, by the way we are dropping the price of the system to XXX'. That could work. But while people are still buying the system (be it not a fantastic amount) I'd say the price will still remain despite any statement made by Sony!

Good to see this site is still going
