Forums - PC Discussion - WoW subscriptions down to 5 million

That article doesn't have its facts straight. First of all, it claims that despite having 5+ million players, WoW isn't the largest MMO in china. Currently, there are only 3 MMOs with over 5 million players, and 2 of them are not in china, with the 3rd having most of its players in the US/Europe.

Uhh, try again.  Maple Story had 18 million players in China as of February 2006 (It's only become more popular since then).  Source: http://gamestudy.org/eblog/?p=32

Excuse me folks, but how do you compare free realms which is FREE to WOW?

@Slimebeast: The recent WoW bosses have these sort of "hard mode" ways to kill bosses (gives better loot and stuff). Sort of like different difficulties. I believe the one Stars killed was a big deal because people theorycrafting it didn't think it was possible... or something. (I don't raid)

Whatever, it's still a world first. The normal bosses are easier nowadays, so more guilds can enjoy the content.

^c0rd, thanks.

Why don't u raid? I always thought rading was funniest, right next after PvP/RvR.

In other news! Free realms has now surpassed 4 million users!

... and (probably) has over 3 Million inactive accounts (like mine)

Slowly World of Warcraft will die because it is a 5 year old game that most users have experienced everything that they want to and (without major rework) Blizzard will be unable to provide any truely new gameplay experiences within the game. Now, if Blizzard "borrows" some of the ideas from other MMO games and implements a new MMO game with the same level of polish that WoW had I would (probably) buy it day 1 ...

That's the rumoured new MMO they're working on, silly. It probably stole tons of great ideas and polishes them.

If half of World of Warcraft's 11 million users are in China, then that means there must be 34 million in Korea and negative 40 million in the rest of the world.

Really... It's big in Korea.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Eh, I enjoy raiding sometimes. I usually enjoy playing more with my rl friends, and to get in raids you'd usually have to commit your time with other people, and I never wanted to do that.

The more recent raids (after WotlK) made it easier for people like me (only requiring 10), so I did get to have some fun with it. Still, it's hard to plan for in general, the schedule / time commitments can be troublesome...

Overall, I'm more of a PvP guy anyway (in any type of game). I guess I get more of a kick out of "owning" people.

^c0rd, I see. Good reply.

When it had over 10 million subscribers, 5.5 million were from asia. It seems the site in question mistook this for 'China'
