I wasn't expecting it to sell 3 million or get a 90%. But I honestly was expecting better than 100K first week and 6.5 from Gamespot.

People still have faith in Gamespot after the Gertsmann-Gate??

I just would like it to reach a million. At least that would probably be able to persuade more developers to start developing more hardcore shooters for the Wii.

I honestly think there is more to that story Gerstmann doesn't want to admit.

Either way for the most I respect Gamespot scores even if I disagree every now and then.

The reactions in this thread were to be expected. A game can't have a decent debut on the Wii. It's just not right in a few peoples mind. They look at the userbase and assume that, "Well EVERYONE should want this game so it should sale 908798769876897689!!!!"

...The "sales compared to userbase" argument is one of BIGGEST turdcorn's to date.

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?

By that logic, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas had horrible sales compared to III because there were more PS2s sold. And RE4 on the PS2 flopped compared to the GC version because of the different userbases.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

EXACTLY!!!! But it is used everytime someone says "compared to userbase" then proceeds to say how the sales of game A, B, or C aren't that good. It's rdiculous YET people use it all the time...

Like with that being the reason Modern Warfare 2 apparently isn't on the Wi. "World At War sold only a 5th as well with twice as many system". Activision doesn't give a shit about that. The net income from the Wii version wasn't any less because of the userbase.

^^ As they say in the country backwood..."URINE MA WHEEL HOUSE MISTA!!!" ...or something like that

I think that Gamespot is better off without Gerstmann.  If you look back at his reviews and the forum reactions while he was at Gamespot you will notice lots of people who were unhappy with both his scores (on all platforms) and sloppy writing.  However, if the reason why they reportedly fired him is true that is just wrong.  They should have just said they were firing him for being a poor reviewer right after he gave a AAA game a high score.

Either way his reviews at GiantBomb aren't very good and not just because he scores games I like low.  He never justifies his scores well enough or goes into enough detail about the game IMO.

^ This is you!

I realize that I'm really late to the party, but here's a list of third party million-sellers that had a larger NA launch week than The Conduit:

Red Steel
Guitar Hero 3
Guitar Hero: WT
Rock Band
Star Wars: TFU
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
EA Sports Active

There are 27 third party games which have sold a million copies with a smaller NA first week than The Conduit.

"The worst part about these reviews is they are [subjective]--and their scores often depend on how drunk you got the media at a Street Fighter event."  — Mona Hamilton, Capcom Senior VP of Marketing
