I still don't understand why DS cart sizes are so small, considering I can buy a microSD card the size of my fingernail 2GB.

DS carts are custom memory cards to prevent piracy; Nintendo could've easily used SD cards which are very cheap and offer enough capacity to even surpass UMD (2GB) but that would make it easy to crack the DS and play pirated roms on it. Better safe (and mute ) than sorry, I guess.

Aaaand the scans don't do the game justice. I got it today and (while i hate the gameplay, but that could be because i don't know Japanese :P) the graphics are gorgeous.

@gamingdevil Has it been released yet??

Around the Network

It's released in Japan. I think it was yesterday or something.

In terms of card size, you need to think like Scrooge McDuck. Even if it only costs $1 extra to go from a 128 MB card to a 256 MB card, that's a $1,000,000 lost if your game sells a million copies. And $1 is a random guess - it might be a lot more or a bit less.

The dollar may be worth spending if it's needed to add the features that will make the game a hit, but if the developers can squeeze it into a smaller card, you can increase your profit margin (hopefully I'm using that term correctly, because I'm NOT an accountant. :))

Profit is not a problem when it comes to a Ds and when it come to my beloved console of choice, I'm all too happy to see it taking brave new steps forward.

It most certainly is out. I saw it at the store. Maybe I'll pick it up some time, but translating could be troublesome, and I just bought my Japanese Wii last week. Perhaps eventually. Also, my first post since I got to Japan.

DS carts are not sold at a loss. They are sold at a profit, even if the profit margin is lower than discs. Hence selling a million copies can only add profit, unless the development of the game itself, not the manufacturing costs of the card, are in the tens of millions.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
