Lol, we get it. You are a PS3 fanboy who thinks that anything the 360 does is not good enough.
In just the first 6 months (the slowest of the year) it is up 23% or around 800-900k. That's amazing! The PS3 after the price cut was up a lot more, but that's because the price cut happened after only one year and it's first year sales were plagued by high price, lack of games, etc.
You are making an irrational comparison here with irrational expectations.
And for the millionth time, the $300 360 Pro is the dominant selling model. The ONLY TIME the Arcade sold 45% of the consoles was during November/December 2008. If MS wants to combat the PS3 they have tons of options surrounding the Pro/Elite models.
Lets not forget that in 2010, Natal and Sony Motion Wand will be making their debuts. MS already stated it would come bundled with every new 360, so I imagine Sony would want to do the same. What will happen at that point? Will they raise the prices back up or just not cut them at all to absorb the cost of the added peripherals?
Guess which new motion technology is going to be more expensive.... Sony Motion Wand(s) + PS Eye, that's which. Each "wand" will cost roughly the same as a Wii-mote (or about half as much if they really want you to use 2 wands per person) and you will need at least 4 of them, or 8 to get the full experience out of a four player game. So at a price of $25-40 each, that's $100-160 already. Add on PS Eye for $40 and you have an upgrade cost of $140-200(or $240-300 if you want all 8 wands) just for Sony's full motion experience. With Natal you just need the one add-on. All reasonable expectations point to a $70-100 cost. And that is for the full experience including multiplayer.
