Week ending the 28/jun/2009
A strong release line-up this week sees several new titles from leading publishers and franchises, with something to cater to every gamers’ tastes. Whether fans of sports, adventure or the latest summer blockbusters, consumers are certain to find reasons to part with their hard-earned cash come Friday.
Vying for the biggest presence on shelves, Codemasters’ Overlord franchise returns in force. In addition to the direct sequel (Overlord II) on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, the publisher is also releasing a standalone adventure (Dark Legend) on Wii and a strategy spin-off (Minions) on DS.
A duo of movie-related releases arrives from the halls of Activision Blizzard. Younger gamers will be able to catch up with Scrat and friends in Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs, while boys and older gamers will enjoy mechanical mayhem in Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen.
Other notable releases include Fight Night Round 4 (EA), Tales Of Vesperia (Atari) and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (Capcom).
Though some are very unlikely to chart, I think those new titles deserve a mention too : "Anno 1404" (PC), "Another Code: R" (Wii), "Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires" (360/PS3), "Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits" (360/PS3/PS2/Wii), "Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero" (PSP), "Resident Evil: Archives" (Wii) and "Valhalla Knights 2" (PSP).
That's quite a lot of releases for a single week.

EA reclaim the top spot this week with new release ‘Fight Night Round 4’, which marks the first time a boxing game has reached the coveted all formats No1 position.
Activision Blizzard’s ‘Prototype’ has moved back down to No2 and EA’s ‘The Sims 3’ has follwed suit moving down to No3. Nintendo’s ‘Wii Fit’ has also shuffled down a place to No4, while THQ’s ‘UFC 2009: Undisputed’ shows some resurgence moving up from No7 to No5. Activision Blizzard hold the next two places with new entry ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ debuting at No6 and ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ at No7. Sega’s ‘Virtua Tennis 2009’ moves up another place this week to No8, could it be the Wimbledon effect? ‘EA Sports Active’ and Sony’s ‘Ghostbusters: The Video Game’ finish off the top ten respectively.
We also have a new release at No17 with Codemasters’ ‘Overlord II’, which is followed by Activision Blizzard’s ‘Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits’ at No18. New entry and No1 PSP title this week is Capcom’s ‘Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite’ making its debut at No25. Finishing up the Top 40 new entries we have Koei’s ‘Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires at No31, EA’s ‘Spore: Galactic Adventures’ at No37 and Atari’s ‘Tales of Vesperia' at No38.
