Forums - Sales Discussion - The OFFICIAL Feb 2007 NPD Thread

Man I'm starting to really buy in the whole VGChart.org sucks thing. According to them Sonic and the Secret Rings and New Super Mario Bros sold less in North American than they did in the United States according to NPD. WTF? And some games only have a slight difference from NPD sales, while some are off by a lot. Are we supposed to believe sales patterns are that much off in Canada from where they are in the US?

Thanks again Bunkum, as usual you are as reliable as the night following the day. Anyone that doubts you should be banned, & his source morons is the NPD. How that has eluded some of you is truly mindboggling, or you have no knowledge of his past legendary exploits on GAF. When kind sir will you be taking sw requests? Also, can someone give a ltd. total numbers on Wii specific titles? (Madden Wii included, no other PS2 shovelware pls.)

Okay Chris, listen up. ioi has gone over the formula of how he arrives at his data numerous times. Any data tracking service incorpoates extrapolations, meaning they can never be 100% accurate as they can never be comprehensive enough to track all retailers. Nor even account for every single copy sold at even tracked channels, but these (the NPD) are very, very well informed numbers. ioi usually accounts for & adjusts his numbers accordingly iirc. Though you must understand that there will always be a %-tile difference, what you see listed at the NPD is not without its innaccuracies, these are not exactly what each title sold in essence.

Mr. Sega was referring to specific titles, like Hotel Dusk, EBA, Trauma Center, (Wii) Okami, MGS3, Halo 2, FE:PoR, SSB:M, FFIII, RE4, etc.

If is possible, I want complete numbers of PS3 and Wii software in february and some X360 software numbers. In the last months, he post that stuff.

I await the fufillment of requests as well. Bunkum used to give complete publisher sw numbers PER CONSOLE! Sony, Activision, Konami, Take Two, Nintendo, MS, Ubi Soft, EA, etc. I used to drool like Homer Simpson, but I believe that's what got him into trouble iirc as someone ratted him out. I'm simply grateful he does requests, as greedy as I am I do not want him getting into any type of trouble for our sake.

Bad month for Sony, but people are going a little overboard. I mean 360 sold under 200k in its first February. I wouldn't consider paying $500/$600 for a console, but it amazes me that 2 million have. Sony will finish the year with close to XBOX 360 first year numbers in the end, maybe 8 million. On the pace currently (roughly 500k/month), without a single sale in Europe. If Sony sells only 125K in March then we will know they have a problem.

Lifetime Sales Prediction - 6/29/2013
Wii U - 38 million
XBOX One - 88 million
Playstation 4 - 145 million

I don't know if I threw my 2 cents in yet. But everyone knows I'm a big Sony fan. Hey I was a Nintendo fan before that, but the PS1 and PS2 were flat out the best machines and best supported hardware. I'm not above getting a Wii, but I've come to despise Microsoft for many reasons and sold my 360. Halo was the only reason I got an Xbox originally and since Halo 2 was ruined they haven't shown me anything special. I feel the competition is great for gamers, but Microsoft IMO is a worse corporation than Sony. Whn it comes to support for their products the only one they make any effort on is Windows cause it's the bread and butter. If you want to get down to it, Nintendo is the "most ethical" and really the best company among the three. That said, I enjoy games like Gears of War for instance, so the Wii doesn't really appeal to me given the constraints. But like I said, I'm not above dropping 250, I have a gamers pass and will just play games at my liesure. I've really been thinking about spending my tax return on a PS3. Amazon.com is having a huge sale right now on Blu-rays. About 48 of them that basically cost less than DVDs. I really feel the PS3 has a lot to offer, XMB, Browsing, Blu-ray player, etc. I don't really need the Wifi, or extra hard drive space, or the flash memory card readers. Is it worth it? I really like HDTV, and HD movies, a 360 I would have to spend 600 to get what I want, PS3 500...When I sold my 360 I basically got all the money I spent on it back. I've just liked the Sony fanchises over these years and I think that's my direction, MGS4, DMC4, FFXIII, God of War. ______________________ On topic. As far as the sales go, yeah that's not good. Hopefully march will be better with the new v1.6 firmware offering a better online experience, Motorstorm, F1, and all the other games coming in March. And the European launch will be pretty big and offer a larger set of online players and community. I think all this talk about it dying is ridiculous though. Why would any fan even want that? A competition of 3 has usually been how it is and it's good for gamers and keeps pricing down. 6 DC Feb 00 92,000 1,861,000 7 DC Mar 00 68,500 1,929,500 8 DC Apr 00 49,500 1,979,000 9 DC May 00 38,500 2,017,500 10 DC Jun 00 53,000 2,070,500 11 DC Jul 00 40,000 2,110,500 12 DC Aug 00 58,000 I was looking at the numbers for dreamcast and I didn't realize how bad it was doing. PS2 didn't even kill it, it was done before PS2 even came out. Look at those figures. That us February 2000, way before PS2 was even out. 92k, 68k, 49k, 38k, 53k, 40k, 58k. That is telling of a dead system, DC didn't even have any generational competition when it came out. Only sold about 2.3 million in the US over the course of 1 year. PS3 has already gotten to 1.2 million, and I really, really doubt their sales ever get as weak as DC was. Anyway, I still want a PS3.
