motion+ wins clearly because it is the only controller to do truely advanced things like...walk.

I just have to highlight this post because the thread could pretty much have ended there...

I thought all 3 were interesting. Wii Plus will obviously have the lead as Nintendo and Wii developers already have games coming, etc. plus the whole approach is central to Wii.

Sony however should be able to get some decent games, etc. out for their tech given it seemed pretty solid during the demo and the core concepts are solid.

MS looked the sexiest but in truth the furthest from really supporting games. Also, they will almost certainly have to backtrack on no controllers I suspect - even if you only hold something solid but fake. I love the concept, but right now it seems far less practical for gaming vs Nintendo & Sony approach - but I'd love to be wrong so we'll see what mad Pete, etc. can come up with to support it.

I expect Natal to get the most headlines but lag behind with adoption and games - but of course I could be wrong.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

come on theprof00 just admit it and stop it.sony has failed to show motion control,it is a direct copy from wii mtion plus.ok is better but it is 2009!!and microsoft has something old+new alltogether.just stop it and admit it.sony is good, all the news are good but some things are just crazy.1000000000 people on the world will be amazed by natal!the buttons are good,,but this is a secondary peripheral for both ps3 and 360.just admit that the 360 video motion ws better

The only thing sony needs for me to say that its better than the wii mote is an analog stick on one wand and a d-pad on another. They have buttons already and thats it. Then i can play FPS, TPS and RTS games. I don't think microsoft's motion controller can do that so its not universal which to me is whats the point.

I didn't notice any mention of a 3d sensor, so maybe I just missed it.

But wouldn't the light from the tv illuminate you enough for the camera to see you?

That is not the point. The point is that Sony's eyetoy is based on technology that has been around for decades and bringsn othing new to the table. It's not an improved version of something that is already out there, it is the exact same technology that has been around for ages. The Playstation wand is again a carbon copy of something that is already out there.

Natal uses technology which is extremely expensive right now. 3D cameras are very expensive and if Microsoft really did put one in their addon, this is amazing. Ever try using a game that lets you scan yourself into the game? It makes you turn around 360 degrees but the results are crappy because it's trying to make a 3D object out of a 2D image. With Microsoft's Natal, it would make a 3D object with a 3D camera.

Had all three consoles launched with these features, I would call Microsoft the king of innovation. However, Sony and Microsoft are too late. These technologies will just be gimicks used by a few games.

Good news Everyone!

I've invented a device which makes you read this in your head, in my voice!

@SKy
I agree with you, the wii is motion-centric.

These attempts by both parties are merely trying to capture the audience that likes those things. If either one makes those technologies their mainstay, I will not buy them.

1 gimmick 2 gimmick 3 gimmick.

3, there are 3 gimmicks.

until they plug my ass in Matrix style, trusty good old analog controller will be the best option.

It isn't an issue of either SONY or Microsoft making the motion sensing their "mainstay" - it's an issue that both of them have to broaden by making their console more accessible to non-core gamers.

I don't think either of them are going to shoe-horn core games into a control scheme which doesn't suit the game, but something like Wii Sports is an example of the type of game (and customer) they can attract with the motion control.

Summary: both with continue to have controller-based core games and will widen out to capture the casual gamers with a whole new set of games to take advantage of the new scheme.  They are additions, not replacements.

Wikipedia:

The EyeToy is a color digital camera device, similar to a webcam, for the PlayStation 2.
Due to the camera's need to "see" the player as they play, the camera needs to be used in a well-lit room. To help let the player know when there is not enough light, there is a red LED on the front of the camera that flashes when it is too dark.

[Project Natal] The device features a "RGB camera, depth sensor, multi-array microphone, and custom processor running proprietary software
The depth sensor consists of an infrared projector combined with a monochrome CMOS sensor, and allows the Project Natal sensor to see in 3D under any lighting conditions."

So, the depth camera can operate in perfect darkness, the EyeToy requires that you have sufficient light.

EyeToy is only an RGB, Project Natal is an RGB *and* a depth camera.

Hmmm, interesting, I didn't know any of that stuff. It sounds very expensive.

How can you call a rip off better than the original?
