2D games will come and go always...it's not even nostalgia...it is a definite gameplay mechanic, where you don't walk freely, you walk only in 2 dimensions...thus creating a unique gameplay experience. Even if 2D dies sometime soon, if it hasn't been considered dead already for consoles, it'll come back with some good games once in a while.

Plus, 2D games usually allow for great art style, and frees up processor power for excellent 3D effects.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

This is very off-topic, and very unusual, but when did you "fossils" start gaming? I'm just curious. I would just like to know if I started gaming close to when you started.

I started when I was about 3 with the NES, so that puts me at about 15 years of gaming.

I just thought up this question naznatips brought up the idea that appreciating 2D games is could be going out of date.

I've been gaming as long as I remember.  According to my dad he had an NES controller in my hand when I was 1 year old and I went to town on it.  My earliest memories of gaming are around 3 on that very same NES.  Those are actually some of my earliest memories period.  So yeah, I went through both 2D generations as an avid gamer.  During the SNES generation I actually bought some classic Atari systems to get some MORE 2D gaming done.

@naznatips, yeh, see, to me that isn't what i call visually pleasing.. at all, it probably just isn't a style i'm fond of

It's ok, Naz. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. The important thing is that you are pleased with the art direction, as I am, and so are others.

Exactly, i'm not saying that it can't look good from your viewpoint, i'm just saying it doesn't look the same for me.. but sorry if i offended you naznatips :P

Edit: I should add; How long have you been playing games?

Started with Pong, and it's been 30 years and counting...

Oh I agree.  You are absolutely entitled to it.  Notice I never once told you that opinion was wrong.  I just posted screens to see if it would change your mind.  Apparently not hehe. I love that art style though, so I can't wait for this game.  I still love Odin Sphere for keeping 2D gaming alive on consoles.

The earliest I can remember playing video games, I was about 3 years old playing Starmaster on the 2600.  And Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Missile Command, Asteroids, Oink!, Enduro, Warlords, Combat (a classic!), and yes, E.T.  E.T. was not as bad as everyone made it out to be.

I think I got a NES when I was 7, I remember going to Toys R Us with my dad to buy The Legend of Zelda.

I'm a fossil because I like 2D? :sob:

I started with my uncle's NES since I was 2 years old. 18 years of gaming... sheesh.

On-topic: Is it me or this game KINDA reminds me of Goemon's style?

Backgrounds seem to use similar color schemes, but past that not much no.

We had Colecovision when I was about 1, don't remember it much, but me and my brother got an NES for Xmas when I was about 2 or 3...my mother's one purchasing decision made me a gamer for life.

Not to bash the graphics, but I'm just saying, this thing looks like SNES quality. I mean, think Donkey Kong Country with better art design.

Anyway, looks cool but I'm afraid it's to "Japanese" for the casual U.S. gamer. Should do well in Japan though.

and just for fun a PS1 game
