But I think if Sony wants to look at the big picture what they really need is quick boosts in the install base. So to lose a little bit more money now if its going to mean users its probably worth it. They need to get the news to be really positive. The way to get that is to make financial analysts happy and retailers like Gamestop happy, and what they both want to see is for Sony to lower the price of the console a bit more. This would also help with Blu-ray movie sales in the long-term.
If this Slim PS3 is real and decently cheaper that might be a big help.
I doubt Microsoft planned that Sony would be utterly defeated yet. I think honestly they are still in some ways amazed how much market share Sony lost so fast going from PS2 dominance to the realities of PS3 these days.
On the plus side we have some nice exclusives coming and the recent Killzone 2. So we finally are getting a little bit of traction as PS3 owners.
